A 23-year-old Anchorage woman was arrested Sunday after Alaska State Troopers found her passed out behind the wheel with her foot still on the gas pedal.
Troopers were called to Aleknagik Road at 4:10 p.m. to follow up on a report of a potentially intoxicated driver, according to an online trooper dispatch. When they arrived at the scene, troopers found a small white car facing into oncoming traffic.
“The white car was engulfed in white smoke from the front tires, that were still spinning. The tires had been melted down to the rim,” troopers wrote.
The driver, identified as Elena Bartman-Wallman, was passed out in the driver’s seat with her foot still on the gas pedal. Troopers were able to turn the vehicle off safely.
Troopers said multiple witnesses saw other people fleeing the car before help arrived, “leaving Elena in a dangerous situation,” the dispatch said.
Bartman-Wallman was arrested for driving under the influence and driving while her license was revoked. She was taken to the Dillingham Correctional Center and arraigned in Dillingham, where she pleaded guilty to the charges, according to court officials.
