ANCHORAGE – A man was arrested and charged Sunday just before noon for sexually abusing a minor at a church, police said.
A woman and a 6-year-old girl were in the ladies’ bathroom at a Mountain View church when the woman heard someone come into the restroom and call the girl outside, according to police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro and charging documents.
Shortly after, the woman heard the girl crying from the men’s bathroom. When the woman went into the bathroom, she found David Chiklak, 29, standing over the girl with his belt unbuckled, according to charging documents.
The documents indicate the girl said Chiklak tried to rape her.
Police arrested and charged Chiklak with first-degree sexual abuse of a minor. When police responded to the report, citizens had Chiklak detained in the church parking lot.
He is not thought to be a member of the church, police said.
This is not the first time Chiklak has been charged with sexually abusing a minor. He was also charged in October 2006 in Bethel, according to court records.
Police said they believe Chiklak could have more victims and are asking anyone with information to call APD Detective Christopher Thomas at 786-2628. He is in jail and being held on a $20,000 bail.
