A Seward man was arrested after he called authorities to tell them he was holding a male employee at gunpoint at a remote cabin in Puget Bay.

Alaska State Troopers said the call was made around 9:50 a.m. on Saturday, pushed through to the Soldotna Public Safety Communication Center via satellite phone. Alexander Herlant, 38, told dispatcher “he had a male that worked for him held at gunpoint,” according to an online dispatch.

Troopers responded to the cabin, located approximately 60 miles from Seward.

“During the incident Herlant fired several shots at the male,” troopers wrote. “The male was uninjured but was held until troopers could arrive on scene.”

Troopers transported both men to Cordova, where they were examined. Neither man was injured, and Herlant was arrested and taken to the Cordova jail.

Herlant faces charges of first-degree attempted murder and third-degree assault. He is being held without bail.
