The Anchorage Police Department said it’s making progress in three homicide cases that happened over the weekend. The shootings occurred early Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
APD Capt. Bill Miller said investigators do not believe any of the cases are related or that the victims knew each other.
“We think we’ve got a pretty good handle on what happened,” Miller said. “We think we know who it is that’s responsible for them, and so we are going to continue to investigate and make sure we get the party or parties responsible for the homicides.”
The first shooting happened around 3 a.m. Friday morning in the Northeast Anchorage area. Miller said several people called police to say they could hear gunshots. When police arrived at the intersection of Duban Avenue and Bolin Street, they found 21-year-old Treyveonkindell Thompson lying dead in the street.
Just 24 hours later on early Saturday morning, 18-year-old Elijah Zeller was dropped off at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Police say he died there a few hours later.
The final victim died early Sunday morning in East Anchorage. Police responded to the area of East Fourth Avenue and Newell Street, where they found 17-year-old Xeryus Tate lying dead in the road with multiple gunshot wounds.
Miller said he couldn’t comment on whether drugs or gangs may have been a factor in the homicides but said the investigations are continuing. He was hopeful arrests would come in the next several days.
