The Anchorage Police Department confirmed they are investigating a shooting in South Anchorage that wounded at least one person on Sunday.
The shooting was reported on the 2300 block of Sentry Drive, near Lake Otis Parkway, around 12:30 p.m., according to APD spokeswoman Renee Oistad.
“The adult male victim and his friend arrived at the victim’s apartment and noticed the front door had been forced open,” Oistad said in a statement. “The two men walked inside and were confronted by a single suspect. The suspect fired a handgun, strking the victim twice in the torso.”
The victim and his friend fled the apartment, and the suspect left the area shortly after that in a red sedan driven by someone else, Oistad said.
Police found the victim at the bottom of the apartment’s outside stairwell and transported him to a nearby hospital. He was listed in serious condition, Oistad said.
No suspect has been taken into custody, Oistad said. She said the suspect was described as a white male in his 20s who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall. He has a thin build and was last seen wearing a black baseball hat, gray hoodie, and light blue jeans. Oistad said there was no description of the sedan’s driver.
“It is unknown what relationship, if any, exists between the suspect and the victim,” Oistad wrote. “The victim’s apartment was ransacked – it is unknown at this time whether or not anything was taken.”
Police are actively investigating the shooting. Anyone with information on the suspect or the shooting is asked to call police at 907-786-8900, or Crime Stoppers at 907-561-7867.
