A group of more than 40 people were involved in a fight outside a Mountain View gas station Tuesday night, according to police.
Anchorage police spokeswoman Anita Shell said the fight, which she described as a “melee,” was first reported at 8:11 p.m. Tuesday at the Holiday gas station on Mountain View Drive.
“I’d like to call it a melee because it was just a bunch of people on these two,” Shell said, noting many were teenagers.
The altercation started between a man and a woman in their 40s and a group of young people, according to Shell. She said the woman ended up spraying one or more people in the group with pepper spray. The group then brought between 40 and 45 other people to the gas station and began beating the couple with rocks and stick, Shell explained.

A witness reported what they thought was gunfire, caused by a rock thrown through a vehicle window, according to Shell. At one point, store surveillance cameras captured the mother of one of the alleged attackers throwing coffee into the first woman’s face, according to Shell. The mother has not been charged.
In another confrontation during the fight, one of the youths threw a bicycle at someone else, Shell noted.
The man suffered a gash to the back of his head, according to Shell, who noted the woman did not need treatment at a hospital.
Police charged three teens and issued them citations to appear in court. They also charged 18-year-old Faizon Murray with second- and fourth-degree assault, Shell said. He was taken into custody and held at the Anchorage Correctional Complex.
Shell said other charges are being considered in this case.
The Holiday gas station in Mountain View has been the location of other crimes, including multiple robberies and two shootings.
