A 29-year-old California man was arrested Monday in connection to an East Anchorage shooting. The Anchorage Police Department (APD) says area residents played an important part in his arrest.
According to APD, around 12 a.m. police were notified of a disturbance between a male and female outside of a home on the 3200 block of Tayshee Circle. Callers told APD they heard several gunshots, which seemed to have come from a light blue residence, from a man in a red hoodie and blue jeans, the agency wrote in a release.
Neighbors said the man fled the scene in a vehicle, but that they had surveillance footage, police stated.
Maurice Anthony Mcelwee was found on foot and arrested. He’s charged with misconduct involving a weapon.
