A 30-year-old Homer man was arrested on a slew of charges by the Homer Police Department after a car chase with Alaska State Troopers (AST), which began with a Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately (REDDI) tip.
According to a trooper dispatch, at 3:05 p.m. Thursday Anchor Point troopers responded to mile 171 of the Sterling Highway. A red, Chevrolet Lumina was spotted by the agency at mile 161.
The driver failed to yield and embarked on a short car chase with law enforcement before crashing into a ditch, the dispatch states. According to troopers, the driver was then identified as Paul Suter, who had warrants for his arrest.
Suter fled on foot into the woods, troopers wrote. But in the same area he fled, troopers received a stolen vehicle report for a white, Dodge 2500. The truck was later seen traveling towards Homer and then another chase began.
The incident ended in the Homer Boart Yard. Suter made an attempt to flee again, on foot, but was arrested by local police.
Investigators discovered Suter was intoxicated. AST said he a DUI felony conviction from less than a decade ago. According to online court records, Suter was charged with DUI in 2007, 2010 and 2012, as well. Troopers added that his license has already been revoked until 2060 because of alcohol-related charges.
AST says Suter faces another felony DUI charge, two counts of first-degree failing to stop, third-degree assault, driving with a revoked license and reckless driving.
“The two assault charges are from citizens reporting almost being struck by Suter during his attempt to flee law enforcement,” troopers reported.
Anyone who had to take “evasive action” during the Thursday’s chase or witnessed the incident is being asked to contact Anchor Point troopers at 907-235-8239.
Sutter was also arrested for felony probation violations, third-degree theft, first-degree criminal trespassing and driving with a revoked license, all of which stemmed from outstanding warrants.
Suter is being held without bail pending arraignment.
