Alaska State Troopers are investigating thefts from more than 20 storage units over the course of several days.
All of the units are owned by the Kodiak Transfer Company in Kodiak, located along Old Tom Stiles Road, according to an online trooper dispatch.
The investigation into the thefts began when someone reported a theft from one of the units on Sunday, according to troopers. When employees went to check on other units, they found many that showed signs of damage, likely from forced entry, trooper spokeswoman Megan Peters said in an email.
“When they found a lock cut or a door kicked in, they wrote down the unit number,” Peters said. “We ended up with 22 total.”
Peters said the storage facility does have security cameras. So far only two renters have filed a report with troopers, she said.
“Troopers are working with Kodiak Transfer to notify all of the renters and to determine what was taken,” troopers wrote.
A spokesperson for Kodiak Transfer declined to comment on the break-ins, saying they did not want to in any way hamper troopers’ investigation, which is ongoing. More information will be released, they said, when troopers report any developments in the case.
