Alaska State Troopers say they arrested a Big Lake man after he allegedly shot a dog and then resisted arrest on Friday.

The dog was shot at a home on Sunrise Drive, troopers said in an online dispatch. They arrived at 6:25 p.m. and found a small dog had been wounded by a neighbor, 77-year-old William Hansen, who troopers said was intoxicated at the time.

“Hansen was advised he was under arrest and subsequently resisted arrest and placed the Trooper in fear of imminent physical injury,” troopers wrote.

When the trooper finally took Hansen into custody, they transported him to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and charged him with fourth-degree misconduct involving a weapon, animal cruelty, fourth-degree assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest, according to the dispatch.

He was later released on his own recognizance, troopers stated. They were not immediately available to comment on the investigation.
