One man is dead and another is in custody after a fight broke out in the village of Selawik early Friday morning, Alaska State Troopers say.
Troopers were notified of the fight at about 1:30 a.m., a dispatch explained, when someone from the village contacted them, saying 38-year-old Roscoe Cleveland had died after a fight. Within an hour, troopers from Kotzebue were on the ground in Selawik to investigate, according to the dispatch. At that point, a Selawik village police officer had already taken a suspect into custody.
Troopers wrote that Cleveland had gotten into an argument with 24-year-old Clive Cleveland at their shared home.
“Roscoe was ultimately stabbed by Clive who is in custody and will be transported to Kotzebue for arraignment on charges of Murder in the [first],” troopers wrote.
Online court records show charges of second-degree murder and third-degree assault were also filed against Clive Cleveland, who was arraigned Saturday. Bail information was not immediately available.
Roscoe Cleveland’s body was sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for an autopsy. Troopers said they have notified his next of kin about his death.
The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing, according to troopers.
