ANCHORAGE, Alaska- An Anchorage man will spend nearly seven years in a federal prison for his role in filing about 100 false income tax returns.

The U.S. attorney’s office said in a Tuesday release that Michael Sexton had earlier pleaded guilty to defrauding the government. Besides prison, he’s been ordered to pay nearly $111,000 and reimburse the government almost another $111,000.

Prosecutors say he and three others obtained names and Social Security numbers of people including inmates at correctional facilities, and prepared false individual income tax returns claiming false wages and withholding amounts.

According to prosecutors, the conspirators submitted about 100 false tax returns seeking more than $213,000, of which the U.S. Treasury issued refunds totaling more than $110,000. The other three have also been sentenced.
