Police in Anchorage have located a stolen truck that was damaged during a shooting involving its owner and two alleged thieves.

The Anchorage Police Department issued a statement Tuesday morning that a maroon 1999 GMC pickup, reported stolen on Dec. 2, was found by police last night near East 20th Avenue and Sunrise Drive. The vehicle was not occupied and appeared to have been abandoned.

Police said the incident between the owner and the alleged thieves occurred at the Value Village on Northern Lights Boulevard just before 1 p.m. Monday. The owner of the truck, who reported the vehicle stolen, spotted it and walked toward it.

“When she was approaching the vehicle on foot, the driver started driving at her; the female fired two shots at the vehicle which took off westbound on Northern Lights,” police wrote in a Nixle about the incident.

It was not clear if the bullets struck either the driver or passenger of the truck, police said.

“The truck was occupied with a male driver that was described as a Native male in his late 20s, skinny with a thin mustache and short black hair,” police wrote. “There was an older native female passenger in the vehicle as well.”

In Tuesday’s statement, police stated they are still working to identify the occupants of the stolen truck and whether or not they were injured in the shooting. Anyone with any information is asked to contact APD at 907-786-8900.
