The mother of a man slain on Christmas Eve addressed her son’s alleged killer when he made his first appearance in court Wednesday.
Lamarkus Mann, 22, is accused of shooting and killing Christopher and Danielle Brooks at their Mountain View home. Police arrested Mann in an Anchorage motel Tuesday and charged him two counts of first- and second-degree murder, as well as first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery.
Officers say Mann and two other men — Jaylyn Franklin and Anthony Malik Harris — planned to rob the couple. Danielle Brooks’ 5-year-old son was home at the time.
Christopher Brooks’ mother said the boy told police “ninjas” killed his family.
“It’s bad because that baby has seen it all and now he’s having nightmares,” Debbra Brooks said. “All he’s asking for is he wants to see Chris, he wants to see his mom and they’re not here. It’s so unfair.”
At Mann’s arraignment Wednesday, District Court Judge Brian Clark allowed Debbra Brooks to speak. Looking at Mann, she said he left six children without their father and took a mother’s life as well.
“I feel like it was so unfair because you could have taken anything you wanted out of the house. You didn’t have to take his life. You didn’t have to take my daughter’s life,” she cried. “Baby, if you’ve got kids, you’ll never see your kids. This is so unfair. All I can do is pray for you and ask God to forgive you and give you the right path to take.”
Clark set Mann’s bail at $250,000 cash appearance and $250,000 cash performance and ordered a third-party custodian for his release.
Franklin and Harris each face charges of second-degree murder, first-degree burglary and first-degree robbery.
Police have stated they are investigating a possible fourth suspect in the case.
