ANCHORAGE – A man was taken to an area hospital with severe injuries after a shooting outside a local VFW post early Sunday, authorities said.
Around 2:45 a.m., Anchorage police received a call that a man had been shot at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post on Oklahoma Street, according to a statement from police spokeswoman Dani Myren.
The man had been “struck multiple times in the arms and torso,” Myren said.
According to early witness reports, a disturbance between two groups escalated outside the post, Myren said.
Shots were fired by one side, police said, striking the man. Suspects fled the area before authorities arrived.
The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, according to Myren.
His name has not been released and “the incident is subject to further investigation,” Myren said.
