A 19-year-old man initially in custody for misdemeanor domestic violence charges, and who threatened law enforcement officials in the southwest village of New Stuyahok, escaped custody for “multiple hours” Wednesday, according to Alaska State Troopers (AST).

In an online dispatch, the agency wrote that Alaska State Troopers were notified that Devin Andrew escaped from a local jail at 2:54 p.m. Before Andrew fled the facility, he threatened families of two village police officers, troopers wrote.

According to AST, troopers based in Dillingham, 52 miles away, responded immediately using a chartered aircraft. After law enforcement searched for him for hours, Andrew was discovered inside his residence. He was cold, but not injured, troopers said.

Online court records show Andrew is charged with fourth-degree assault, two counts of criminal mischief and third-degree assault. Troopers said Andrew was taken to Dillingham.
