The Anchorage Police Department is looking for a person of interest in the shooting death of 17-year-old Jesus Oropeza.
Oropeza was found lying unresponsive in the roadway of Birch Street just after midnight on Jan. 21. He had been shot in the back, police say. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared deceased as a result of his injuries.
On Tuesday, police identified 18-year-old Sean Robert Samuel Simeonoff and 18-year-old Kenya Damien Jacob Berezkin as persons of interest with information about the shooting.
Just after 5 p.m., police announced they had taken Simeonoff into custody for questioning. Police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in a phone interview that he was not considered a suspect at this time and was not under arrest.
