ANCHORAGE – Police said they would like the public’s help in nabbing five people believed to be part of a vehicle theft and credit card fraud ring.

According to police, a Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson air force member was packed and ready to deploy in mid-August 2013 when her Toyota Tundra was stolen. Her military gear and purse were inside the truck and she did not live on base at the time.

Over the next 24 hours, a group of people used her government credit card to buy $8,000 worth of stuff at gas stations, grocery stores, retail stores and fast food joints across Anchorage, police said.

The woman’s credit card was cancelled and nothing else was bought after Aug. 13., police said. Her truck was recovered later that month in Mountain View, but all her belongings inside the truck were missing.

Police said they are putting this information out now because they need help finding the people.

The Anchorage Police Department is asking people with information to call APD Detective Darren Hernandez at 786-8900. You can also remain anonymous by submitting a tip to Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP or going online.
