A 26-year-old Juneau man is in custody for allegedly stabbing a woman in the head and back, according to police.
The Juneau Police Department identified the stabbing suspect as Brent Sanders Wednesday, the day after the attack on Cinema Drive in Juneau.
The stabbing was reported around 1:35 a.m. Tuesday. When officers responded, they “located a 37 year old female victim with a knife sticking out of the side of her head and multiple stab wounds to her back,” according to a statement from JPD Lt. David Campbell.
Another female victim was discovered during their investigation. Campbell explained the second female victim had been struck in the face by Sanders when she tried to get involved during the attack on the first victim.
Both victims were taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital, and the 37-year-old victim was later flown to Anchorage for further treatment of her injuries, he said. Her condition was not immediately available.
Campbell stated that Sanders initially fled from the home where the stabbing took place, but returned later Tuesday morning. Other residents in the building called police, who arrived within minutes to arrest him, according to Campbell.
Police charged Sanders with first-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, Campbell said. While those charges were being drawn up, Campbell said Sanders was held in custody on a no bail felony parole violation warrant and two charges of third-degree assault.
Sanders was booked at the Lemon Creek Correctional Center, Campbell reported.
The investigation into the attack is ongoing, but Campbell wrote that drugs and alcohol appear to be contributing factors.
