Timothy Lineer, 28, was first charged in November 2014 with multiple counts of first and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, as well as two counts of unlawful exploitation of a minor and two counts of possessing child pornography.

At his sentencing, Superior Court Judge Jack Smith called the case “tragic” and accused Lineer of violating the trust of the “most vulnerable in our society.”

According to his arrest warrant, Lineer was a longtime friend of the victim’s family. Once the accusations were brought to police, the victim and her mother were interviewed.

The victim’s mother told investigators, Lineer had permission to take her, along with his own children, to the movies, swimming and then to a restaurant for the day.

The victim later told her mother that he had “touched her on her privates” while he was driving her home that day in his pickup. She told authorities that “she had to let him because he was nice,” the court document says.

The victim also told authorities that Lineer had taken a picture of her with his cell phone.

The victim’s mother confronted Lineer about her daughter’s comments prior to alerting police.

“He confessed that he has a problem and asked that she not call police,” investigators wrote in the warrant.

After he was arrested, Lineer admitted to the accusations and admitted to sexually abusing a 6-year-old on multiple occasions. He also admitted to viewing and downloading images of child pornography.

Lineer was previously arrested for second-degree sexual abuse of a minor in 2011, but that the charge was reduced to contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to court records.

He was also arrested on charges of sexual abuse of a minor in 2001 and unwanted sexual contact in 2005. He was not convicted on either charge.
