An Anchorage man is facing an attempted murder charge after an altercation with another man ended with both men undergoing treatment for multiple stab wounds.

Police spokeswoman Renee Oistad says the incident was first reported around 1:38 a.m. on Monday. Two calls came in reporting two injured men, one located on the 3100 block of Tarwater Avenue and another on the 3200 block of Peterkin Avenue.

Police found 23-year-old Kevin Dyer on Tarwater Avenue suffering multiple stab wounds on his body, Oistad said.

He was transported to the hospital for treatment of the non-life-threatening wounds,” she said in an email. “Dyer displayed erratic behavior while speaking with the police.”

Oistad said the second man had severe stab wounds to his neck and head and was taken to a local hospital.

The investigation into the two men’s wounds revealed that the second man had been staying at Dyer’s apartment, according to Oistad.

“Dyer woke the victim up, they got into a verbal altercation, and Dyer began to stab the victim,” she wrote. “The victim was able to grab a knife and stab Dyer in return in self-defense.”

The victim escaped and ran away, eventually banging on windows and doors at homes on Peterkin Avenue to get help.

Dyer was charged with first-degree attempted murder. Oistad said he was in the hospital until Tuesday, at which point police served a warrant for his arrest and took him to the Anchorage Correctional Complex.

This is a developing story; please check back for updates.
