A 25-year-old man has been arrested for manslaughter and driving under the influence, for hitting and killing a 10-year-old pedestrian in November, according to a release from the Anchorage Police Department.
APD said Christopher Lee Turner was arrested Tuesday.
Police were called to Jewel Lake Road and 88th Avenue on Nov. 13 at 5:22 p.m., for a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.
The child was taken to a local hospital, where she was declared deceased.
APD said two pedestrians were crossing west to east, toward the Holiday Gas Station, when Turner ran a red light and struck the girl. According to the agency, Turner had methamphetamine and marijuana in his system at the time.
In a November interview, Jessica Smith identified the victim as her daughter — Kaliyah Douglas. Smith said Douglas was with her older sister at the time of the fatal collision.
Turned is scheduled to be arraigned in Anchorage jail court Wednesday, at 2:30 p.m.
This is a developing story; check back for updates.
