Adam Wayne Sullivan smelled like alcohol when Anchorage police contacted him for the first time, after his estranged wife was shot and killed Thursday, according to a criminal complaint filed.

Brandy Marie Sullivan’s 13-year-old daughter called 911 shortly before 4 p.m. to report her mother had been shot. The girl told police she and her 11-year-old sister were home at the time of the shooting, the complaint says.

When officers with the Anchorage Police Department arrived, Brandy Sullivan was dead. She suffered multiple gunshot wounds and .380 caliber shell casings were on the floor, the complaint said.

Later, Adam Sullivan’s brother called police. The brother told investigators that Adam Sullivan told him that he had just shot his wife, the document stated.  He added that he was also following his brother, who was driving a green Honda, in south Anchorage and was giving police updated locations, as they attempted to contact the accused.

Police found Adam Sullivan near the Lowe’s on Old Seward, as he was walking out of the store. According to the complaint, police found two .380 caliber handguns, as well as ammunition for the guns.

Adam Sullivan refused to be interviewed, the court document noted.

The Sullivan’s had recently become estranged. In January, Adam Sullivan filed for divorce, online court records show. Since their split, the complaint says Adam Sullivan was living with his brother.

A friend of Adam Sullivan’s spoke with him before police arrived. She told investigators at the scene that “he had hurt his ex.”

“She further stated that Adam Sullivan told her he was on his way to Girdwood, that he was done, and that everything was over and he had a gun with him,” the complaint says. “He later told her that his kids were going to hate him.”

The friend told Adam Sullivan’s brother she believed he was going to kill himself. When Adam Sullivan’s brother contacted him for the first time, they met at a south Anchorage bar.  Adam Sullivan’s brother attempted to keep his brother there until police arrived, but Adam Sullivan drove off before police showed up.

He’s being held at the Anchorage Correctional Complex and is scheduled to be arraigned at 2:30 Friday in jail court, Anchorage jail booking said.

This is a developing story; check back for updates.
