Anchorage Police are investigating an assault with a hammer that occurred early Monday morning near downtown.
Police were called to the 800 block of Karluk Street around 2:30 Monday morning on reports of someone bleeding from the head.
Officers found that several people were involved in a verbal altercation which escalated into physical violence; one man grabbed a hammer and struck another man in the head, according to authorities.
The victim, who has not yet been identified, was taken to the hospital with injuries police described to be life threatening.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor, police say.
While no charges have been filed, Anchorage Police say they’re not looking for any suspects in connection to the crime, and the investigation is ongoing.
