Anchorage Police say they have at least one of the persons responsible for a shooting inside a grocery store over the weekend in custody.

Anchorage Police Lieutenant John McKinnon says 18-year-old Devon Maurice Brown has been arrested in connection to the trashing of the Carrs-Safeway on Northern Lights Boulevard, as well as the shooting of one of the store’s employees.

Saturday morning, Anchorage Police say a group of unruly teenagers was fighting inside the store, breaking merchandise and urinating in the aisles. Police say one of the teens pulled out a gun and shot a store employee as the group fled the store. The incident occurred before 7 Saturday morning.

The employee sustained injuries authorities described as not life threatening.

Brown is charged with misconduct involving weapons, assault and reckless endangerment, though McKinnon says it’s not yet clear if Brown is the one who fired the shot.

“Officers were able to get some still footage of the video and then circulate those among the department,” McKinnon said, “And other officers recognized the individual as Devon Brown and a detective actually recognized him– then they did an investigation. They were able to secure enough information for a probable cause statement, which they took to the magistrate, and then got a warrant for his arrest and he was taken into custody this morning without incident.”

Detectives are still investigating to determine who else was involved.

If you have any information that may help the investigation, you’re asked to call Anchorage Police.
