The Anchorage Police Department (APD) is investigating a stabbing that happened near 15th Avenue and Karluk Street just after 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The man, who has not yet been identified, claimed he was stabbed by someone he knows.
“[A man] was injured around his neck area. We are not exactly certain what had happened,” Anchorage Police Lt. John McKinnon said. “When police arrived, he had began to lose consciousness.”
The man was taken to the hospital with a life-threatening neck stab wound, according to police.
This is thought to be an isolated incident, and APD thinks the man was injured in an apartment nearby on Latouche Street and made his way over to 15th Avenue and Karluk Street looking for help.
The police department has secured the scene. No one has been arrested and the department is not looking for a suspect, but they have talked to a witness, according to McKinnon.
“Right now we think it might be isolated to an apartment,” McKinnon said just before 2 p.m. “We are making contact there right now, so, it is not like we feel like we are chasing after somebody.”
APD is investigating the incident as a serious event and brought in resources to collect evidence and process the crime scene, McKinnon said.
The investigation is ongoing.
