Anchorage police have arrested a man they say is responsible for shooting another man in the Mountain View neighborhood Monday afternoon.
Luis Alberto Aponte-Sosa, 33, was taken into custody by Airport Police at around 6 p.m. Monday at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Anchorage police spokesperson Renee Oistad wrote in a Tuesday release.
According to police, the shooting took place near a home on the 700 block of Klevin Street at shortly before 5 p.m.
The victim was brought to a local hospital after being shot in the chest. Multiple family members arrived with him, prompting the hospital to go into lockdown mode.
Witnesses told police at the scene they thought Aponte-Sosa would “try to leave the state.” This prompted APD to reach out to Airport Police.
The suspect was arrested inside on of the terminals and taken to Anchorage police headquarters for questioning.
Aponte-Sosa has been charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment and third-degree misconduct involving a weapon.
The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.
