Anchorage Police say a man robbed a convenience store early Friday morning with a fake weapon.
Just before 4:30 Friday morning, officers were called to the Tesoro gas station in the 100 block of East North Lights Boulevard on reports of an armed robbery.
Police sat the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Christopher Gunderson, pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene on foot.
Responding officers set up a perimeter and deployed the K-9 unit to search the area. Officers located Gunderson in the area of West Fireweed Lane and Blueberry Road; he was found to be in possession of the stolen cigarettes and currency, APD says.
The K-9 unit also located the gun used in the robbery, along with a hat. Police say the gun was determined to be a fake firearm.
Gunderson is charged with first-degree robbery, third-degree assault and fourth-degree theft.
