Anchorage Police said Monday they’ve cited the driver who caused the crash that critically injured one person and shut down the Seward Highway for hours on Sunday.

Peter Jouflas was issued a citation for reckless driving in connection with Sunday’s crash. APD says there’s no indication that alcohol and drugs were contributing factors.

APD’s preliminary investigation found Jouflas failed to slow or stop his 2017 silver Ford Expedition as it approached a stopped 2012 Chevy SUV. The SUV was stopped behind a Toyota 4Runner that was making a left turn into a pullout near mile marker 109.

Authorities say Jouflas swerved to avoid a collision and struck the driver’s side of the SUV before crossing into oncoming southbound traffic and striking a 2014 Toyota Tundra that was pulling a boat on a trailer. The impact caused the Tundra to leave the highway and strike a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 that was stopped at the pullout.

Jouflas was taken to the hospital, as were all four occupants of the Tundra. One person in the Tundra sustained life-threatening injuries, APD says.

APD says all parties involved in the collision were wearing their seatbelts.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
