Anchorage police responded after a gun was discharged at the ground early Sunday as Downtown bars closed, but said nobody was hurt during the incident.
A group of officers were gathered near 4th Avenue and D Street just before 3 a.m., police spokeswoman Renee Oistad said in an email when they heard multiple rounds being fired in the parking lot of the Sunshine Mall.
“The officers ran to that location and witnessed several pedestrians and vehicles fleeing the area,” Oistad wrote. “According to witnesses, two males had gotten into a physical altercation when one of them fired a gun into the ground. Witnesses showed officers the vehicle that was involved.”
Police spoke with “several individuals” inside the vehicle, Oistad said, including someone who witnesses reported had fired the weapon. No immediate charges were filed due to lack of probable cause, but the vehicle was seized pending a request for a search warrant.
