A 42-year-old Kotzebue man faces felony animal cruelty and criminal mischief charges for allegedly killing four sled dogs when he was intoxicated.
KNOM reports (http://is.gd/twRIfY) the incident happened at a cabin east of Kotzebue.
Alaska State Troopers say Carl Henry Jr. got in an argument with a relative at the cabin on April 9.
Henry left, and the relative later found four sled dogs missing.
Another man told troopers he and Henry had been drinking. He says Henry became angry because the dogs wouldn’t stop barking and shot four of them.
Troopers say they couldn’t find any remains, but presume the dogs are dead.
A pre-trial conference is scheduled for May 30 in Kotzebue. He’s been assigned a public defender, who didn’t return a message left after business hours Thursday.
