Police are searching for a suspect following a double shooting near 12th Avenue and Hyder Street in Fairview Wednesday afternoon.
The Anchorage Police Department asked people to avoid the area just after 2:30 p.m., and said the two victims were taken to a local hospital with what appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.
At 2:11 p.m., witnesses called police to report gunshots being fired in the area. Witnesses said they saw a man walk up to a group of people who were hanging out on a vacant lot near Spirits of Alaska liquor store and Alexander’s Body Shop. The man talked with the group before pulling out a gun and opening fire, according to witnesses.
Shortly before the shooting, witness Allison Demoski said she saw a group of men bullying and robbing a person who appeared to be homeless. A third party who saw the robbery fired the shots, she said.
Police and K-9s are looking for shooter, but authorities have not released a description.
This is a developing story.
