North Slope Borough authorities recently seized two packages with more than 150 grams of marijuana.
The first, containing roughly 156 grams of pot, was being shipped to Nuiqsut on Monday when North Slope Borough Police intervened. The package’s estimated street value is roughly $10,400.
The second, with an intended recipient in Barrow, was also removed from the mail stream this week. Police estimated the street value of the marijuana inside at $13,200.
The names of the involved parties are being withheld pending further investigation. All suspects are in danger of being charged with fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, a felony offense punishable by up to five years in jail, and a fine of up to $50,000, borough police said in a statement.
Also recently seized were a total of 25 bottles of whiskey, two bottles of rum and one bottle of vodka, all containing 750 milliliters. The estimated street value of the alcohol totals an approximate $5,600. It is anticipated that multiple suspects were involved and will be charged on both the state and federal level, according to police.
