An Anchorage man was pinned underneath a stolen sedan after a rollover crash on the Sterling Highway early Monday morning, Alaska State Troopers said.
According to trooper dispatch, 37-year-old Tyler Johnson was driving a red, 2000 Toyota sedan reported stolen from Homer earlier that evening when he went off the road just after mile 164. Troopers responded to a report of the incident shortly before 12:30 a.m., and said investigation revealed Johnson was driving south when he went off the highway along the southbound lane. He overcorrected, troopers said, crossed into the northbound lane and rolled off the road.
The crash ejected Johnson from the sedan, according to AST, and he was pinned beneath the driver’s side when the vehicle finally came to a rest.
Troopers said Johnson was rescued by an EMS crew from Anchor Point, and driven to South Peninsula Hospital to be treated for “possible major injuries.”
Johnson was not wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred, and troopers said he faces charges for DUI and first-degree vehicle theft.
