The death of a woman who went missing nearly a month ago is under investigation as a homicide, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
In a brief statement released Thursday evening, APD said 54-year-old Irma Williams’ body was discovered in Mountain View Wednesday morning. Williams, who lived in the neighborhood, was last seen in mid-September, her family said. Police said a missing person report was filed Sept. 30.
Thursday afternoon, members of APD’s search team combed through the woods at Mountain View Lions Park and said the entire forest was considered a crime scene. An APD statement released after Williams’ September disappearance said she was known to frequent Lions Park — as well as Davis Park and Mizelle Park — and often rode a blue bicycle.
Police said anyone with information on Williams’ death is asked to call APD dispatch at 786-8900.
