A warrant is being issued for a driver’s arrest after the motorist lead Alaska State Troopers on a high-speed chase and damaged a patrol vehicle, causing minor injuries to a trooper early Thursday morning.
Shortly before 1 a.m., troopers stopped a black 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee on West Claiborne Drive near Hollywood Road in Wasilla for “multiple” traffic and moving violations, according to an online dispatch.
Troopers contacted and identified the driver, who then fled the traffic stop “nearly running over the Trooper,” the dispatch says.
The driver then lead AST on a 10-minute, high-speed chase through nearby neighborhoods, during which the suspect rammed a trooper vehicle twice, “causing both extensive damage to the patrol vehicle and minor injury to the trooper,” AST wrote.
The driver then fled down an ATV trail, troopers say. Troopers are withholding the driver’s identity “as warrants are being issued for the person’s arrest,” according to the dispatch.
