FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) – Two Fairbanks men have pleaded guilty to trafficking methamphetamine.
The U.S. attorney’s office says in a release that 51-year-old Andrew Paul Newman and 36-year-old Jason Carl Heim entered their pleas Friday in U.S. District Court in Fairbanks.
Sentencing was set for April 4.
Prosecutors said the men received a package of seven ounces of 71 percent pure meth in August from California. Postal inspectors suspected it contained drugs, and followed the package when it was delivered.
Authorities say Newman and Heim were arrested when they were opening the package in a wooded area near North Pole.
Officials said it was the latest in a series of packages the men received.
Prosecutors said the street value of the drug would be more than $80,000 if it were diluted for resale.
