A 28-year-old Fairbanks man has been charged with selling 454 pounds of stolen copper.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (http://bit.ly/1GPB6aV) reports Curtis James Wrightsman was charged last week with burglary and theft.

Prosecutors say he sold copper tubes and fittings valued at $7,000 to $10,000 as scrap for $708.

Dayn Cooper, the owner of a building maintenance company, in October discovered that he was missing the metal. He told police the fittings had been packed in plastic bags.

He called scrap metal companies and one confirmed the purchase from a man who had packed the metal in a car trunk.

Police linked the car’s license plate to a friend of Wrightsman.

Wrightsman remained jailed Monday at Fairbanks Correctional Center. Online court records did not list a defense attorney in the case.
