ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) – Alaska State Troopers say an Anchorage man illegally fed cabbage to multiple moose on his property. Authorities say feeding wild game like moose puts people at great risk of injury or worse.
Troopers say 67-year-old Samuel Becker fed moose on the day he was contacted Jan. 4.
He was issued a summons to appear in court Feb. 3 to face a misdemeanor charge of intentionally feeding game.
Becker declined to comment, saying he didn’t want the matter blown out of proportion.
State wildlife biologist Jessy Coltrane with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game says her agency received unsubstantiated reports last year about potential moose feeding in the same neighborhood.
Coltrane says moose can become aggressive when they have been fed by people and expect others to feed them.
