Two men have been arrested after stealing several dozen pizzas and trying to resell them to police, authorities say.

At 10 a.m. Sunday, Nome troopers were notified of the theft of 80 frozen pizzas from the Gambell Native Store warehouse during a burglary sometime earlier that morning, according to an online dispatch from Alaska State Troopers. The pizzas were valued at $1,100 total.

Village police officers investigated the burglary and theft, troopers wrote. Officers were able to identify two suspects – 29-year-old John Koozaata and 21-year-old Lewis Oozeva — after the men attempted to sell the stolen pizzas over the phone to on-duty personnel.

The two admitted to eating five of the pizzas. The other 75 pizzas were recovered, according to troopers.

Both men were arrested and taken to Nome to await formal charges of second-degree burglary and second-degree theft.
