A 24-year-old woman faces multiple charges after troopers say she eluded troopers in her car and on foot in Sterling.

Sunday afternoon, Alaska State Troopers attempted a traffic stop after a 2002 Dodge Neon was spotted driving recklessly on the Sterling Highway. The vehicle nearly collided with two vehicles at Mile 86, according to an online AST dispatch.

The driver of the vehicle failed to yield and eluded troopers for approximately five to six miles. When the driver, later identified as Holly Smith, tried to turn onto Cooper Street, troopers say she crashed into the tree line where the street intersects with the Sterling Highway.

Smith then fled on foot down the street, where troopers were able to apprehend her and take her into custody.

Investigation revealed Smith was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

She was taken to the Wildwood Pretrial Facility and faces two counts of third-degree assault, a felony eluding charge, and DUI, among other charges.
