Troopers say they arrested an Anchor Point man after he called dispatchers more than a dozen times in a 14-hour period without an emergency or crime to report.

From around 10:45 p.m. Monday to 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, 50-year-old Amine Bentobji allegedly contacted Alaska State Troopers on the 911 emergency line and the non-emergency line more than 20 times. He did not report an emergency or indicate a need for a response from authorities.

“Over the course of 14 hours, Bentobji became increasingly belligerent with Emergency Services Dispatchers and began calling 911 and hanging up after saying a few words or making animal sounds,” troopers wrote in an online dispatch.

Troopers say they warned Bentobji “numerous times” to stop calling them if he did not have a crime or emergency to report.

“He was advised he was creating a hazard to the public by tying up emergency lines and dispatchers for his non-emergency calls,” troopers wrote, adding that they informed the 50-year-old he could be arrested.

Bentobji continued to call, and AST arrested him for disorderly conduct and second-degree harassment. He was remanded to the Homer Jail. Troopers say alcohol was a factor.
