ANCHORAGE – A man has been arrested in connection with two random attacks on women near the University of Alaska Anchorage.
University police said they received a report around 8:30 a.m. Friday that a man in his 20s attacked a woman near the bus stop on Providence Drive in front of the library. The man fled before police arrived.
The second attack was reported around 2:30 p.m., police said. This time it happened inside a UAA building and was similar in nature to the first attack, they said.
Students got an email about the attacks: Some said they pay attention to their surroundings and aren’t terribly alarmed by what happened.
Police didn’t comment on if the man arrested was the person described as the attacker.
The attacker was described as a white male in his mid 20s wearing a knit hat, a flannel jacket and dark khakis or green pants. Police said he was also carrying a backpack.
Police are still asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information about the attacks is asked to call campus police at 786-1120 or to remain anonymous use the Silent Witness webpage.
