A woman was stabbed on the Glenn Highway bike path near Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) Sunday afternoon, police said.
The woman was walking along the trail when she was approached by a male suspect, who attempted to take her bag, according to a statement from Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Renee Oistad.
“When she resisted, he stabbed her once in the torso and then ran away on foot without taking anything,” Oistad wrote.
The woman called for help from a friend, who picked her up and drove her to a nearby JBER gate. There, medical personnel and police assisted her and took her to a hospital. She was later released after receiving treatment, Oistad said.
“The suspect was described as a black male of average height and build,” Oistad said, and noted he was reported to be wearing a gray sweatshirt and blue jeans. She said they attempted to locate him in the area of the attack but did not turn up any leads on his whereabouts.
Anyone with information on the attack or the suspect is asked to call APD at 786-8900.
