The Anchorage Police Department is looking for a man who rammed into a squad car early Wednesday morning, then fled.
Around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, an APD officer noticed a gray 2016 Chevy pickup near Dimond Boulevard and Minnesota Drive. Police had been told the truck was being used by assault suspect, 31-year-old Taming Ting Jr., who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
The officer followed the suspect vehicle and called for additional units to respond, according to the APD release.
Officers attempted to pull the driver over near the northbound Minnesota Drive off-ramp at International Airport Road, the statement reads. When the driver stopped at the red light at the intersection, an officer moved his patrol car in front of the vehicle blocking it.
“The officer was able to get a clear view of the driver and confirmed it was Ting Jr. [The suspect] rammed the vehicle into the officer’s patrol car and pushed it out of the way,” APD states, adding that Ting Jr. fled the scene in the pickup at high speeds.
The chase was called off due to what APD called “dangerous conditions.” Less that an hour after the incident, the truck was found abandoned near Northwood Street and Strawberry Road.
The officer whose car was struck suffered minor injuries from the collision and the car was towed from the scene.
In addition to his prior warrant, Ting Jr. has also been charged with third-degree assault, criminal mischief and felony eluding.
