Police are looking for a man who assaulted his girlfriend, stole her wallet and phone, and has avoided capture.
In a release Wednesday, Anchorage Police Department spokesperson Renee Oistad said they are asking for the public’s help to find 25-year-old Johnathon Demeritt, who has a felony warrant for domestic violence assaults.
Demeritt also has two unrelated misdemeanor warrants, the release states.
Demeritt attacked his girlfriend multiple times on June 1, according to APD, choking her at least once. He stole the woman’s property, including her wallet and cell phone.
APD said Demeritt was last seen in the area of Gambell Street and East 48th Avenue wearing an orange jacket and carrying a green and black Under Armor backpack. Police say Demeritt is a light-skinned black male, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 150 pounds with brown eyes, short hair and a “scraggly beard.”
Demeritt is aware of the warrants and is actively avoiding police. Police are asking anyone with information on Demeritt’s whereabouts to contact APD at 907-786-8900, Crime Stoppers at 907-561-7867 or go to www.anchoragecrimestoppers.com
