Police are seeking help from the public to answer questions about a woman who was left at an Anchorage hospital with a gunshot wound Thursday morning.

Just before 4:30 a.m., police received a call from the hospital that a woman, who has since been identified as 30-year-old Zong Xiong, had been dropped off there with a critical gunshot wound.

A release from the Anchorage Police Department later Thursday morning, stated the department is looking for information about the shooting that occurred sometime that morning. The gunshot wound does not appear to be self-inflicted, APD stated.

“When you have a scene to work with that makes things a lot easier, and so right now, we are trying to figure out a scene of where this shooting event might have happened, so that’s making it challenging,” APD spokesperson Jennifer Castro said.

Police have not been able to speak with Xiong, who is undergoing medical treatment.

Castro said in a phone conversation late-Thursday morning that there is no relation between Zong Xiong and Pang Xiong, a 49-year-old woman who was shot and killed on July 3.

“We have someone who is severely hurt and may potentially lose their life,” Castro said.  ”And its not OK to have something like this happen to someone in our community.”

KTVA’s Shannon Ballard contributed to this report.
