A 22-year-old woman was arraigned in court Saturday, where she faces charges of murder and manslaughter following the death of her 4-month-old daughter.
Nina Alexie was indicted indicted on charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter on July 28. According to a Friday release from state attorney general’s office, the child was found dead on July 23 in an East Anchorage transitional residence.
In court Saturday, Alexie asked the judge if she could be released.
“I just want to go to my daughter’s funeral if that’s possible because I want to leave on an unsecured bond if that would be necessary,” she said.
If convicted, Alexie faces a sentence of 15 to 99 years for the murder charge and up to 20 years for manslaughter.
Alexie’s bail is set at $250,000 plus a court-approved third-party custodian. The judge scheduled an arraignment for Alexie in Superior Court on Monday, Aug. 1.
