KENAI, Alaska (AP) – A former Soldotna school nurse has been sentenced to 80 hours of community service and fined $1,500 for tampering with public records.
The Peninsula Clarion (http://bit.ly/1iPZ1vd) reports 65-year-old Donna Cotman pleaded guilty to forging a signature on school immunization records.
Prosecutors dropped four felony forgery counts filed against the retired Redoubt Elementary School nurse in exchange for the plea.
Soldotna police in April investigated after a parent said his wife’s signature had been forged on their child’s immunization exemption form.
A police investigation concluded that Cotman forged signatures on four immunization documents and filled out the forms after parents failed to do so.
Cotman retired after the investigation.
Defense attorney Peter Ehrhardt questioned why the case was pursued. He says most Alaska school nurses probably have done the same thing.
