ANCHORAGE – A former Anchorage crime fighter was acquitted on two counts of sexual assault charges.
Dwight O’Connor had served on the Anchorage Public Safety Advisory Commission for more than a decade when a woman accused him of rape in 2011.
She claimed O’Connor picked her up, took her to a construction yard and assaulted her. O’Connor, however, claims the encounter was consensual.
Last week, the jury threw out two of the charges, but remained deadlocked on the third count of sexual assault.
Prosecutors said they will decide next month whether to retry O’Connor on the third count.
